"A Showcase of Culture and Tradition"

A festival highlighting the culture and tradition of a particular part of Northern Luzon, a well preserved representation of the ancient Spanish and Filipino heritage, the Ilocos Sur. The Kannawidan Ylocos Festival is not just a festivity, it's also a time to commemorate the anniversary of Ilocos Sur as a province.

It is a platform which takes not only locals but also tourists back in time and experience the beauty of history.  It is the best time for Ilokanos to reminisce those that we have inherited from our dear ancestors. The distinctive culture of the Ilokanos is truly a treasure which needs to be relived. It is a reminder that we should live up to our roots, not exactly, but authentically.

Nowadays, we are invaded by the blinding power of Technology, but hence it is not an excuse to get rid or forget about our nativity. As a millennial, I do know some of the traditions, songs, dances, and other Ilocano culture, but most are just acknowledged without really experiencing, or knowing them fully. In the said Festival, the OTOP or the One Town, One Product is also showcased, wherein the agricultural products, livestock of farmers and fisher folks, and other different products from different municipalities are displayed for us to experience.

Of course it wouldn't be a festival without the contested activities. We have the Kannawidan streetdancing and showdown at the evening which showcase the OTOP of the different towns incorporated in a dance. The Saniata for the adult females and the Saniata ti Agtutubo for the the young females. Saniata and Saniata ti Agtutubo showcases the beauty, the talent, and the intellect of the females representing different cities and towns of Ilocos Sur. Mr. Kannawidan which is a Muscle Showdown with the
Ilokano Body Builders.

There's a Battle of the bands, and also different Artists and Bands who played and kept everyone entertained.  It is indeed the best event that I've witnessed. It is a good contribution in preserving the rich and authentic heritage for the next generation to live for. Your travel in Ilocos won't be complete without getting to experience the Kannawidan, in which by then you can say that visiting Ilocos Sur is worthwhile.
